We’re proud of our diverse and inclusive community and aim to make finding meaningful work as easy as possible. WISE understands everyone has differing preferences, requirements and beliefs, so we cater our services to work for you. Keep reading to see how we make WISE accessible and inclusive for everyone.
Accessible WISE offices and inclusive staff
You can find WISE offices located across most states and territories in Australia. We find accessible buildings in popular areas close to public transport and offer out-reach offices in numerous locations to bring our services closer to you and allow for disability accessibility. All our offices have elevators or wheelchair access ramps, along with accessible bathrooms close by.
WISE customers have the option to access our services in person or via online appointments. In addition, phone or video-call meetings create more flexibility for customers who are at work or unable to attend physical meetings.
Our WISE In-Work support team is always willing to make the logistics of appointments easier for our customers, working around their schedule and visiting them on location.
Accessible employment programs, services and training
Along with flexible appointment arrangements, WISE can tailor-make and adjust our employment services to suit your cultural, economic and religious backgrounds. Our team has access to translators or other community members to help break down language barriers, including Auslan, the majority sign language of the Australian Deaf community. Translators can be made available in appointments and job interviews.
WISE runs several additional employment programs, including Rainbow WISE for the LGBTQIA+ community, and WISE Women to support women who face barriers to work. Members within these communities run both programs to promote awareness and improved understanding and inclusion in the employment space.
Additional ways we create an inclusive and accessible environment for customers include:
- Asking for your preferred pronouns and updating our systems with these
- Community awareness activities
- Celebrating a wide range of disability holidays and awareness days
- Provide ongoing mental health and wellbeing support via our Occupational Rehabilitation team
- Connecting you to community groups and additional support to ensure you have access to a wider network
- WISE make diverse hiring a priority to reflect the communities we support
- Running social enterprises to provide people with disability work
- Continuing to invest in, and support, community projects
Accessibility and inclusion for employers and organisations
To continue to make our environment inclusive, WISE works with employers and organisations to provide disability education, disability awareness training, mental illness education, providing information about cultural requirements or other workplace adjustments. This may look like organisational training, upskilling team members, providing signage, making offices safer and more accessible, Auslan training, providing disability guidelines, and more.
We love sharing the successes of our community and expanding on how we adjusted our employment services to suit customers’ needs. We’re always happy to discuss what else we can do to support our customers in their journey towards, and during, employment.
