Nam feels independent, happy and safe thanks to his new role
With the help of WISE Employment Richmond, Nam was able to get back into the workforce after being unemployed for five years. The 59-year-old has joined the team at Bancroft’s Dry Cleaning in South Yarra and describes this to be a delightful experience.
Nam, who is Vietnamese and has limited English, was diagnosed with a spinal disorder which made joining the workforce rather difficult. Thanks to WISE, Nam attended Jump Start, an academic preparation program, and was able to develop the skills that allowed him to join Bancroft’s Dry Cleaning where he assists with pressing and steaming garments.
Burcu, Nam’s Employment Consultant from WISE, has helped Nam along the way. She explains that Nam was very eager to learn.
“Nam was very motivated to work, he was always on time to appointments and he just needed an employer to give him a chance to prove himself.”
For Nam, the stability of a job has allowed him to develop a sense of both financial and personal independence. Nam explained that he used to be on Centrelink benefits and his new job means he no longer requires financial support, making him feel motivated, confident and happy.
“I like working at Bancroft Dry Cleaning very much. It’s a very happy place and I’m a very happy employee,” said Nam.
Nick, Nam’s employer, has worked with WISE Employment on a number occasions and really believes in the work they do.
“There’s a pool of talent out there and employers should broaden their horizons, because the people that come through WISE are loyal, positive in attitude, and make great employees.”
Nick went on to highlight what a great work ethic Nam has, “Nothing is a problem! Everything he does, he does with a smile.”
Nam recognises that WISE Employment has played a huge role in his growth. He explains that the team not only helped him land the job, but are still following up on his progress. Burcu continues to assist Nam with regular check-ins to ensure he’s enjoying the role and receiving ongoing support.
