Determination pays off for Dylan with full-time employment
After skipping around from one casual job to another, 24-year-old Dylan has finally landed himself full-time employment, now working in the warehouse at online retail Oobi Baby. For Dylan having job security and a reliable work schedule has always been a priority and when the opportunity to work in the warehouse came up, Dylan jumped at it.
‘Every other job I’ve had has been casual and for the most part, the employers haven’t had much consideration for me,’ says Dylan. ‘Now I have job security and a solid income. I have steady work instead of sitting around waiting three weeks for a shift.’
Prior to landing the job at Oobi Baby, Dylan had been unemployed for over 93 weeks. Working with the team at WISE Employment Penrith, Dylan went through several training courses to broaden his skillset and determine what areas he was most passionate about. The varied training supported Dylan in his quest to gain full time employment.
According to Fay from WISE Penrith, ‘It really was a matter of finding the right fit for Dylan. We went down a few avenues, trying a bit of this and a little bit of that. We put him through courses and classes and in the end, it was a matter of piecing it all together and finding a place where he belonged.’
Fay also worked closely with Dylan’s employer Stevan, ensuring the role was equally a good fit for Dylan as Dylan was for the company.
‘Fay was absolutely fantastic,’ says Stevan. ‘She was very considered. She asked us a lot of questions about the position and the culture so she could ensure she found us a candidate that met our needs as a business and a team.’
Dylan was that perfect candidate. According to Stevan, Dylan slotted right in and was very keen to start work. He’s even taken the initiative to suggest different ways to operate more productively in the warehouse.
Since starting in the role just two months ago Dylan is noticeably more positive and active. ‘I was in a bit of a slump’, says Dylan. ‘Then, as soon as I got a job, I felt better. My main goal now is to be more active and motivated; the job has certainly helped with that.’
