Anne reclaims control over her life during the height of COVID-19
A dedicated mother and a woman of incredible resilience, Anne looked to WISE Employment for assistance in rejoining the workforce after an unemployment period of more than three years.
While this time ensured she could focus her efforts on looking after her son, when it came time to rejoin the workforce and look for stable employment, she felt overwhelmed and unsure where to start.
Having previously worked at a local fruit and vegetable market, Anne was no stranger to customer service. But she was concerned her time away from work might be seen as a barrier to potential employers.
“When I made the decision to start looking for a job, being out of the game for so long was definitely something I worried about. The job market had continued to evolve and I was concerned my skill set was outdated,” she says.
WISE and Anne’s Employment Support Worker Rebecca were able to help guide and support her through this time of hardship, assisting with updating her resume and addressing any concerns she had in regards to potential job interviews and application processes.
Rebecca could see from the very beginning that Anne displayed strong social skills and a willingness to learn.
“She is highly motivated and self-sufficient, having applied for numerous jobs and work trials. She was always determined to find one she loved,” said Rebecca.
Rebecca was there every step of the way to ensure she was applying for jobs that suited her skill set and personality. Application processes can often be gruelling, and at times this took a blow to Anne’s confidence, but Rebecca made sure to keep her focused and optimistic.
Throughout this period, Anne dabbled in volunteer work for an array of not-for-profit organisations to boost her confidence in working with others, providing great practice for when she landed her current role with Clean Force.
As the parent company of Clean Force, in July 2020 WISE was able to sell Anne in as a strong candidate. And she’s been thriving ever since as a valued cleaner.
“I’m really loving it. I cannot thank Rebecca and WISE enough,” she said.
Although Anne’s days are kept busy, she is excelling in her new work-life routine, and a steady income during challenging times has allowed her to live comfortably with her family.
“WISE and Clean Force have given me the freedom to be independent and gain back control of my life. I still have the balance I need to be there for my family, which is the most important thing to me,” Anne said.
Employed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when many others were struggling to maintain or find secure employment, Anne considers herself one of the lucky ones.
