Community projects
Over the last 30 years, WISE has been proud to be part of the Australian community, getting involved in everything from comedy events, to choirs and special projects.
We’ve put together a timeline with some of our community project highlights.

WISE trees
WISE Trees is a project in collaboration with WithOneSeed, the Ho Musan Ida Foundation and WISE Employment.
The aim of the project will see WISE adopting 200,000 trees, delivering long-term environmental, community and humanitarian impact in Timor-Leste.
Plus, the project will ensure disability awareness and inclusion support will be provided to the wider communities, reducing the stigma of disability and opening up opportunities in the future.
WISE Fest
To help unite our community during COVID-19 restrictions, WISE Employment launched WISE Fest.
The festival ran across September and October 2021, with three free events our community and the public could participate in.
These events included Tigers Training with Richmond AFLW Captain Katie Brennan and Vice-Captain Sarah Hosking, Rooster-cise with Brydie Parker from the Sydney Roosters NRLW Team and WISE Fest Live Music Extravaganza with Aussie icon, Jimmy Barnes and Adam Thompson with David Jones.
The WISE Art Project
In March 2020, WISE Employment launched an open call for the WISE Art Project. The project aimed to showcase the inherent artistic talents of the WISE Employment employees, clients, the wider community, and their loved ones.
These commissioned pieces are proudly displayed in WISE offices around Australia.
The Community Voices project
From 2019- 2021, the Community Voices Project brought people in Brisbane and Tasmania living with disability together to sing, build confidence, foster friendships and find employment.
Although the participants have all graduated, it’s not too late to see them sing and hear their stories.
WISE Employment celebrates 25 years of service
In 2017, WISE Employment celebrated 25 years of enriching the lives of disadvantaged job seekers.
To celebrate, we shared the personal stories of 25 people who courageously explained their challenges and triumphs in finding work during our 25-year journey. Our founding board members also shared their experiences and motivations in providing new pathways to employment and developing a range of specialist programs where the need is greatest.
The Empowermental campaign
In 2014, WISE launched the Empowermental campaign.Targeting employers, the campaign demonstrates that a person who has a mental illness can be the best person for the job.
Empowermental breaks down stigma and encourages Australian businesses to consider employing people who have a mental illness.
WISE Stand Up for Mental Health
In 2013 and 2014 we were proud to present WISE Stand Up for Mental Health, featuring stand-up comedy by Australian comedians who shared the ups and downs of experienced mental illness through ‘comedy for change’.
The project was guided by award-winning Canadian comedian, author and counsellor David Granirer.
