Is occupational therapy right for me?

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) helps people do more of the things that matter to them. That might mean becoming more independent at home, building social confidence, managing fatigue, or learning strategies to take on daily tasks with greater ease.

OT isn’t just about physical recovery. At WISE, our occupational therapists work with people living with physical, psychosocial, cognitive, and neurological conditions. We help people build the skills, routines and environments that support greater independence and wellbeing.

If you have an NDIS plan, occupational therapy might be a good way to reach your goals—wherever you’re starting from.

How occupational therapy can support your goals

Occupational therapy can help you with:

At home

  • Building confidence with personal care and daily routines
  • Improving skills like cooking, budgeting, cleaning, or laundry
  • Planning and recommending home modifications to make life easier and safer

In the community

  • Navigating public spaces or transport more confidently
  • Accessing community events or services with greater independence
  • Building social connection and communication skills

Supporting your wellbeing

  • Managing fatigue and focus
  • Strengthening emotional regulation and routine
  • Supporting recovery from stroke or neurological conditions
  • Falls prevention, pressure care and dementia support

At WISE, we also offer mental health-focused OT, which can include coaching delivered by a Mental Health Therapy Assistant under OT guidance. This hybrid model helps make support more accessible and relevant to your daily life.

How do I know if OT might help?

You don’t need a clear plan or diagnosis to get started. OT might be a good fit if you:

  • Feel overwhelmed by daily tasks or routines
  • Want to feel more confident at home or in the community
  • Are living with disability or mental health challenges and want tools to feel more independent
  • Have goals but aren’t sure how to get there alone

What supports are available through NDIS at WISE?

Our services are flexible and tailored to your needs. They can include:

  • Functional capacity and psychosocial assessments
  • Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) assessments
  • Assistive technology recommendations and training
  • Home modification assessments
  • Skills training for personal care, daily living and social connection
  • Therapy and rehabilitation in the home, clinic or community

Our experienced occupational therapists work alongside you to understand your strengths, needs and goals. We deliver supports that are practical, meaningful and designed to fit your life.
