Job seeker FAQs
The level of employment assistance available is determined by each person’s circumstances and background. The first step is to contact Centrelink to ask if you’re eligible for government-funded employment services — via either Workforce Australia or Inclusive Employment Australia.
If Centrelink determines that you are eligible for employment services, contact 1800 685 105 to be referred to your nearest WISE office, or register your interest as a job seeker online.
Alternatively, you can contact your nearest WISE office directly, and ask about which employment services would be applicable to you. You can find your nearest WISE Employment office in ACT, NSW, NT, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC, and WA.
WISE Employment is Australia's leading not-for-profit employment services provider. We are a specialist recruitment company for unemployed people who may or may not be living with disabilities, injuries and health conditions, including mental illness. We deliver Australian Government-funded employment programs like Inclusive Employment Australia and Workforce Australia to help all Australians into a job.
Our employment services are free to eligible job seekers and employers. Read more about us and about WISE programs and services.
In the case of Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA), Centrelink will conduct an ESAt (Employment Services Assessment) to verify that you have a medical condition/injury/disability and, subsequently, determine that you are eligible for IEA. You do not have to be receiving income support or government benefits to be eligible for government-funded employment services, and to register as a job seeker with WISE.
In the case of Workforce Australia (generally for people who do not have a disability, injury or health condition), you would in most cases need to receive income support (e.g. Job Seeker payment, Parenting payment, Carer payment, Youth allowance) in order to register as a job seeker with WISE.
However, if you or your partner have been retrenched in the last 6 months, or know that you are about to be retrenched (up to 3 months in advance), you may be eligible to sign up for employment help via WISE Workforce Australia *without* having to receive Centrelink benefits / income support payments.
Please get in touch with your local WISE office to discuss further. The WISE team would be able to talk you through and help you with the process.
