WISE Employment launches Rainbow WISE
WISE Employment is proud to launch Rainbow WISE, the first inclusive Australian employment program for LGBTQIA+ individuals.
The Rainbow WISE employment program provides a safe environment for LGBTQIA+ customers living with a disability, injury or illness, to find meaningful employment.
Customers receive one-on-one support from a dedicated Case Manager. Together, they map out a tailored employment plan and identify a clear pathway to achieving their career and personal goals.
WISE Employment’s Disability Employment Services (DES) QLD and NSW State Manager, Ragul Raveendran, explains how the program builds on WISE’s existing values.
“WISE is known for the work we do with some of the most marginalised people in our communities. We’re the voice and advocates for those who are underrepresented. We believe everyone has the right to be included and feel safe to live their own life. Rainbow WISE is the culmination of all these things, working alongside the LGBTQIA+ community,” says Ragul.
With community at the heart of everything it does, Rainbow WISE offers customers a unique job-seeking experience.
“Rainbow WISE is a targeted program working with the LGBTQIA+ community and is unique because it’s run by the people of that very same community, in their community! Rainbow WISE is supported by hundreds of advocates who work at WISE, waving the flag high and proud,” explains Ragul.
Working within a diversity and inclusion framework, the Rainbow WISE team will educate employers on the benefits of an inclusive workplace. With the help of local partner community organisations, WISE aims to break down barriers and open up opportunities while ensuring customers stay empowered throughout the process.
“It’s important that we are able to assist employers in creating trust within their organisations, so they can demonstrate to their employees that diversity is not only respected, but it’s valued,” says Ragul.
“Rainbow WISE strives to ensure every customer, irrespective of their background, disability, and sexual orientation is seen, heard and appreciated for how unique they are. Many organisations may have diversity but don’t have inclusion. Inclusion is the capacity for the diverse staff to feel respected, heard and allowed to contribute towards success.”
“Our customers will continue to remain at the forefront of every decision, every connection we make – empowering them to feel included, seen and appreciated.”
Rainbow WISE’s Diversity Employment Consultant, Jake McDonald, says the program focuses on inclusivity will give customers confidence to show up as themselves.
“Rainbow WISE is all about not hiding behind who you think you have to be. It’s about giving you the confidence to be yourself and feel empowered, says Jake.
“We want Rainbow WISE customers to go to work, be proud of who they are, what they do, and their inclusive workplace.”
Rainbow WISE is currently running out of the WISE Darlinghurst and Marrickville Offices.
